Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

For more information about compulsory school attendance, visit:

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

NSW Department of Education Anti-bullying for parents and carers

The NSW Department of Education's Parents and Carers webpage on anti-bullying serves as a vital resource hub for parents navigating the complexities of addressing bullying behaviour. Offering comprehensive guidance and support, the webpage equips parents and carers with valuable insights into recognising signs of bullying, empowering them to foster safe environments for their children. Through practical strategies, informative articles, and links to further resources, the platform encourages active engagement in the fight against bullying, emphasising collaboration between families, schools, and communities. With a commitment to promoting inclusivity, empathy, and resilience, the webpage serves as a place of support, empowering caregivers to advocate for a culture of kindness and respect in both online and offline spaces.

Anti-bullying Plan

Emerton Public School’s Anti-bullying Plan is designed to cultivate a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive. Focussing on empathy and inclusivity, our plan prioritises proactive measures to prevent bullying while fostering a culture of kindness and respect. With clear reporting mechanisms and responsive intervention strategies, we ensure swift and effective support for any instances of bullying. At Emerton Public School, we are committed to fostering an atmosphere where every student feels known, valued and cared for.

Student Wellbeing and Behaviour Management

At Emerton Public School, we prioritise the holistic well-being of our students through a multifaceted approach that incorporates various evidence-based programs. Our commitment to fostering a positive school environment is reflected in initiatives such as the Stop, Think, Do program, which equips students with essential social and emotional skills to navigate challenging situations effectively. Additionally, our Kindness on Purpose Program promotes empathy, compassion, and inclusivity, encouraging students to actively demonstrate kindness in their interactions with others. Complementing these programs is our Behaviour Expectations Matrix, providing clear guidelines and expectations for conduct across all school settings. By integrating these initiatives into our curriculum and daily practices, we strive to empower students with the tools and values necessary to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
